Health & Safety within our company, lift maintenance regulations
Working Safely, without compromise to a recognised standard, OHSAS 18001.
To demonstrate our continued commitment to the Health, Safety and Welfare management for our business activities and personnel and in accordance with lift maintenance regulations, our Occupational Health Safety and Welfare (OH&S) systems have been certificated for compliance with the UK’s recognised national standard OHSAS 18001.
The company’s Health, Safety and Welfare performance are monitored and continuously improved by our Health, safety & Welfare committee which contains representatives from all operational departments of our business. The committee is lead by our two H&S leaders, a full-time Health, Safety & Training Officer and part time Health & Safety Officer.
To ensure that these committees are effective and add-value to the continuous improvement of the safety culture of our business, all members of the committee have received comprehensive training on their duties as representatives of employee safety and all employees have been made aware of their appointment and how to bring up items for discussion and action. Our two H&S leaders are fully qualified, one with a NEBOSH General certificate and the other a British Safety Council diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
Memberships of Relevant Organisations
Under lift maintnance regulations, we take the subject of health and safety seriously and ensure we are kept up to date with developments through our key organisational memberships.
Our two H&S leaders are members of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). The company are also Corporate Members of the IIRSM.
We are Members of the British Safety Council and have won awards for our performance every year since 2000. We are also a recognised Training Centre for The British Safety Council, which means that we have been assessed and adjudged to have the resources to run our own qualifying courses and to conduct BSC examinations which are delivered by our Health, safety & Training Manager, Tony Blakemore. New starters at our company receive relevant training.
Lift & Escalator Industry Association Health & Safety
In addition to our membership of H&S organisations, our Quality Manager, Elizabeth Nicholls, who is also a part time H&S Officer for us, and dealing mainly with our CDM Regulations compliance, serves on the Safety Committee of the Lift & Escalator Industry Association. We are signatories to the Lift & Escalator Industry Association Safety Charter, designed to encourage a culture of constant vigilance amongst all involved in the lift and escalator industry and all of our operatives receive a copy of the Lift & Escalator Industry Association’s Site Safety Handbook.
Our robust management of Health, Safety and Welfare is visible, not anecdotal!
